Missing teen found safe

Dec. 4, 2013 — With help from the news media and social networking, Carter County sheriff's deputies were able to find a missing teenager over the weekend.

The sheriff’s office issued a press release Sunday morning asking for assistance with locating Cheyenne Day, 15, who was missing from the Davy's Run area near Hitchins.

She was last seen walking on Carol Malone Boulevard in Grayson on Friday but had not made contact with her family.

Because there was no reason to believe that Day had been abducted, authorities were unable to issue an Amber Alert.

“We didn't have any leads for two days,” Deputy Matt Morrison told the Journal-Times. “Without the help of the Journal-Times and Facebook, I don't think we would have been able to find her.”

Morrison said once the news of Day's disappearance was posted online, tips of Day being spotted in Ashland, Huntington, and Morehead began pouring in.

By late Sunday night, Day was located and returned to her family with the assistance of Morehead police.

Due to Day's age, no further information about the matter is available,
