Local couple embodies spirit of volunteerism

Jan. 8, 2014 — When combing the ranks of the numerous volunteer organizations throughout Carter County, two familiar names crop up time and again in leadership positions – Dan Click and Mindy Woods-Click.

Dan serves as chairman of the Arts and Culture Committee for Carter County and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Carter County Community Foundation.

He also is president of the Board for the Grayson Gallery and Art Center and serves as the director/ gallery coordinator.

He also volunteers with the Eastern Kentucky Arts Project and the Kentucky Art Tribe, is a member of the North East Kentucky Arts Council, and is the incoming vice president of the Grayson Rotary Club.

His civic involvement in Carter County took off shortly after marrying Mindy, who had been part of numerous volunteer organizations throughout the area for years beforehand.

“I blame that all on Mindy since she was already so involved when we got together! When we were first married, I was fortunate to meet so many community leaders and volunteers,” said Dan Click.

His most ambitious project to date is the establishment of the Grayson Gallery and Art Center, which is housed in the old fire station on the corner of Third Street and Carol Malone Boulevard.

“I was made aware of the vacant Grayson Fire Station due to my term with tourism. I was able to tour the space and immediately asked if we could host an art show there,” said Click.

“Seeing immediate success on a small scale led to step after step towards a real and permanent entity and the Grayson Gallery & Art Center was born and continues to grow,” he added.

“It's made me realize how fulfilling it can be to work with fellow artists by helping to provide them a more permanent, ongoing venue here at home in Grayson,”
