March 27, 2013 — On Thursday, Carter County listeners will be without their beloved local radio station but only for one day.
Weather permitting, WUGO FM 102.3 will be off the air on Thursday. The station will be shifting its signal to 99.7 on the FM dial.
WUGO General Manager Francis Nash said they plan to be back on the air on Friday morning or even late Thursday if things go well.
“There will be no change in programming, just a new and better spot on the dial for reduced interference and a better signal,” Nash said.
WUGO is making the switch to 99.7 and its old 102.3 frequency is being assigned to the Charleston/ Huntington area.
“There is no 99.7 station on the air right now in this area,” Nash said. “A broadcaster in the Charleston area will be using the 102.3 frequency probably very soon but 99.7 has never been on the air in this area.”
Negotiations for the switch took several weeks and required approval of the Federal Communications Commission.
