Bluegrass jam session coming to Carter Caves

March 27, 2013 — A public “jam session” featuring notable country and bluegrass singer/songwriters Marty Raybon and Larry Cordle will be part of this year’s fall event lineup at Carter Caves.

The event will be held Oct. 4-5, with music scheduled throughout both days at the campground and pool areas.

Raybon is most widely known for his work with the country music group Shenandoah. He was the group’s lead singer from 1985 to 1996, and has gone on to record several solo albums since.

Cordle’s songwriting work is widely known throughout country and bluegrass circles. His song "Murder on Music Row" was recorded by George Strait and Alan Jackson and won the Country Music Association (CMA) Award for Song of the Year in 2000.

“We’re really excited to offer this to the local community as part of our packed event calendar this year,” said Park Manager Chris Perry.

Though the event has yet to be widely publicized, camping spaces are already filling up quickly. Only 17 spaces with electricity remain, and 30 primitive camping spaces are still available for the weekend.

Tickets for both days are $35 and can be reserved by calling Mick Grills at (606) 316-7169 or Chris Binion at (606) 286-1805 or purchased at the gate. Children 12 and under are free.

Campground reservations can be made by calling (800) 325-0059 or online by visiting parks.ky.gov.
