Accident shuts down I-64

April 13, 2012 —

The Kentucky State Police in Ashland is investigating an injury collision involving three pedestrians and another motor vehicle.

This incident occurred on I-64 east bound around 4:30 pm Friday evening near the 166 mile marker.

The names, ages, and addresses of all parties involved cannot be released at this time until family members are notified of the parties involved.

The preliminary investigation revealed three occupants of 2006 Toyota Pickup pulling a U-Haul trailer had pulled onto the shoulder of the roadway and exited the vehicle. Another driver operating a 2005 GMC Savana Van travelling eastbound on I-64 apparently struck the occupants of the vehicle as they were standing outside their vehicle.

It is unclear whether the occupants were on the roadway or the shoulder of the interstate. All three of the pedestrians were transported by ground and air to Cabell Huntington Hospital for multiple injuries.

The collision is still under investigation by Trooper David Hobbs.
