Former reserve deputy arrested

Nov. 14, 2013 — A Carter County Sheriff's reserve deputy who was stripped of his title was arrested Thursday and charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, a Class C felony.

Tracy J. Dickerson, 61, of Grayson, had been stripped of his badge last month, and was arrested by Kentucky State Police.

According to a copy of the warrant obtained by the Journal-Times, Dickerson committed the offense in October while “...in performance of his duties as a Carter County Sheriff's deputy.”

A review of court records revealed that Dickerson had been convicted of flagrant non-support, a Class D felony, in 1996.

Dickerson was a special reserve deputy for the CCSO, and carried a weapon while in uniform. Sheriff Casey Brammell said that although unpaid, Dickerson did do prisoner transports and served civil papers for the CCSO.

“He didn't file an application and this felony didn't show up on a background check,” Brammell said. “Once I learned he was a convicted felony, he was no longer part of the department. He handed over his badge and turned in all his equipment.”

Dickerson was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond shortly after his arrest.
