State social worker, Prichard employee investigated for child abuse

Nov. 21, 2012 — The Grayson Police Department is investigating abuse allegations made against a state social worker and an employee at Prichard Elementary School.

GPD Det. Sgt. Travis Steele told the Journal-Times that limited information was available in both cases, due to the age of the alleged victims.

“We received a report of alleged abuse by a classified employee against a child in the emotional and behavioral disorder classroom,” Supt. Ronnie Dotson said. “We contact Social Services and the City Police, and are waiting to hear back from them.”

Steele said that a child had made allegations of excessive restraint against one of the classified employees at Prichard on Oct. 23. Steele declined to release the name of the school employee being investigated.

Glenna Lykens-Rayburn, Social Service Clinician with DCBS at the Northeastern Regional office, is also facing an abuse investigation.

Steele said GPD received a report that a woman was disciplining a child by striking them with a shoe in the Ralph's Food Fair parking lot on Nov. 10.

Although Steele said the child was not Rayburn's biological child, her relationship to the child is unclear.

Both cases are currently under investigation by the Grayson Police Department and no charges have been filed.
