Grayson police responded to a robbery call at Clark’s Pump N’ Shop on Wednesday, only to find that the individual who reported the incident was actually behind the theft.
Beth Gee, 41, of Grayson, was arrested on charges of theft by unlawful taking and falsely reporting an incident when she confessed to officers at the scene that she had been the one who had stolen money from the store.
Det. Sgt. Travis Steele informed the Journal-Times that Gee had allegedly stolen more than $5,000 over a period of several months and had been manipulating the daily deposits in an effort to conceal the theft.
After realizing she would be unable to continue the charade on a long-term basis, Steele reported that she allegedly concocted a scheme to report the money as stolen in an effort to cover her tracks.
When Grayson police pressed her about inconsistencies with her story, however, she allegedly confessed to stealing the money and filing a false report and was arrested at the scene.
Gee was released Friday from the Carter County Detention Center after posting a $5,000 cash bond and had not been arraigned on these charges at press time.
