April 10, 2013 — Ashland-based Hammertowne is celebrating a national bluegrass music award, and the release of its new self-titled CD.

The band signed with Mountain Fever Records in January, and will combine an upcoming concert with its CD release party.

The group will be in concert with bluegrass musicians Dave Evans and Larry Cordle Friday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Southern Ohio National Gospel Stage in Wheelersburg, Ohio.

“We're going to have a huge time,” said David Carroll, who plays guitar for Hammertowne. “We just want as many folks as we can to come and fill this place up.”

Carter County native Scott Tackett plays guitar for the band. He was working on a solo album nearly two years ago when he asked musicians Brent Pack, Chaston Carroll, Doug Burchett and Dave Carroll for assistance.

“We had such a good time we kind of hated to quit,” Dave Carroll said.

Mountain Fever Records contacted the band about recording an album.

“When we got ready to do the record I contacted Mark Hodges with Mountain Fever,” Carroll said. “I really liked what he had to say and he liked our tunes. It was all kind of a big coincidence.”

Hammertowne was named the winner of National Bluegrass.com's Band on Rise Nationally (B.O.R.N.) award for 2012.

“Voting consists of an online process,” Carroll said. “They have monthly winners and at the end of the year all the monthly winners go into the annual award process. We won in November and then we won the annual award. We were tickled to win that. It really helped us broaden our fan base outside of our immediate area.”

Carroll said he and his band mates are excited about playing with Larry Cordle and Dave Evans.

Deep River Management will be on hand to represent the band.

“Brent Pack kicked off the song with his banjo ringing loud and clear; the timing and the tone of this band drew me in like a magnet,” said Laura Ridge, agent/owner of Deep River Management. “With Scott Tackett's pure voice and tight harmonies by father and son, David and Chaston Carroll and Doug Burchett in this song, I was instantly hooked.”

Advance tickets are available for $10 by calling 740-574-6000 or 793-7706. Tickets also are available at Guns, Gold and Cash in Grayson. Space is limited but tickets will be sold at the door for $12.
