Northeast rolls out public transportation service

Sept. 4, 2013 — The Northeast Kentucky Community Action Agency will begin offering public transportation services in Carter County on Monday, Sept. 9.

These services are available to all members of the general public needing transportation from within Carter County to the cities of Olive Hill or Grayson.

The fee for services will be $1 per stop for trips within the city limits. Monthly passes will also be available for $20 and will allow for unlimited stops on trips within the city limits.

For trips originating outside the city limits, the fees are as follows:

•1 to 5 miles – $5.00 per round trip

•6 to 20 miles – $10.00 per round trip

•21 to 50 miles – $25.00 per round trip

•Over 50 miles – $1.00 per mile per round trip ($25 + $1 per mile for miles over 50)

Currently, transportation will only be provided to businesses within Olive Hill and Grayson city limits but eligibility for the service is not restricted by income level.

Carter County residents will need to call at least 24 hours in advance to schedule service and no later than 3 p.m. the day before the trip.

Transportation services will be available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.

Service will not be available on legal holidays or on days the weather is deemed unsafe to transport riders.

Availability of buses is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Those interested in service should call 286-4443 on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. to schedule a trip.
