Construction begins on Grayson library

Jan. 1, 2014 —     Work began last week on the new Grayson branch of the Carter County Public Library.

The project comes with a $100,000 price tag, and will install two new bathrooms, replace the heating and air conditioning and replace wiring. The remodel of the old Houck furniture building on Main Street is expected to be completed by the end of March.

Library Director Nellie Jordan said that several projects are in the works for raising the necessary funds.

“Toward the middle of January, a group of people plans to start a soft capital campaign,” Jordan said.  “We also are waiting to hear from two local corporations about large capital requests that we have submitted.  Both have a history of being very supportive of our community, and we fit well into their philanthropic principles.”

Jordan said there also are people, who wish to remain anonymous, who are prepared to fill in the gaps if fundraising holds up the construction.

“They just want to make sure that construction continues on schedule so we are able to get in the building and be functional,” Jordan said.

CTB, Inc, of Catlettsburg is completing the general construction work on the library project.

Since the majority of the work is indoors, the library board is not worried about hold ups caused by the weather.
