Grand jury indicts nine

By Myra Hogan, managing editor

Nov. 11, 2009 A Carter County Grand Jury indicted nine individuals on Friday, October 29, on a total of eight counts.

• Carla Kiser, 42, of Main Street, Grayson, Jeremy Griffith, 20, of Woodberry Dr., Ashland, and Joslyn Ingle, 19, of Willis Street, Grayson, were all three indicted for one count of second degree burglary for unlawfully entering Room 209 of the Super 8 Motel being the dwelling of Tammy Southerland.

• Leslily N. Whitaker, 23, of Hwy. 1, Grayson, was indicted on one count of theft by unlawful taking, a Class D felony, for taking a firearm that belonged to Marilyn Hall.

Five people were indicted for failure to support their children.

• Michael Mekelburg, 47, of Grayson, was indicted on one count of flagrant non-support, a Class D felony, in the amount of $69,499.

• Elgin Gilbert, 32, of Grayson, was indicted on one count of flagrant non-support, a Class D felony, in the amount of $1,280.

• Travis Ferrell, 29, of Mt. Sterling, was indicted on one count of flagrant non-support, a Class D felony, in the amount of $6,720.

• Samuel Wheeler, 39, of Grayson, was indicted on one count of flagrant non-support, a Class D felony, in the amount of $42,212.

• Raymond Wease, 49, of Grayson, was indicted on two counts of flagrant non-support, one in the amount of $8,077. and the other for $40,332. Both counts are Class D felonies.

Also, released from the Carter County Circuit Clerk’s office were indictments against four individuals on September 18.

• Heather A. Bays, 38, of St. Rt. 955, Olive Hill, and Larry Porter, 51, of St. Rt. 955, Olive Hill, were each indicted on one count of cultivation and growing of 40 marijuana plants, a Class D felony. (Bays and Porter were incorrectly named in last week’s edition of Journal-Times for being arrested as part of “Operation Flamingo Road”. Their arrests were not part of that operation.)

• Tabhitha Shenett, 22, of State Hwy. 1, Grayson, and Joshua Daniel, 25, of St. Hwy. 1, Grayson, was each indicted on one count of receiving stolen property for receiving a trailer valued over $1,000 and knowing it was stolen, a Class D felony.

An indictment does not prove guilt.
