Nickapalooza

By Tonia Rose, staff writer

July 8, 2009 Get ready to support a great cause as the first-ever Nickapalooza rocks the Carter County Fairgrounds during an all-day Christian music festival.

Saturday’s event is set to begin at 1 p.m. and plans to offer a hefty load of fun including 10 bands, concessions, hours of fellowship and praise and worship.

Tickets can be purchased for $11 at Farmer’s True Value Hardware with all proceeds going to support the various outreach ministries of the Nicholas Yancy Nichan Foundation, said Melissa Brooks, contact person for the event.

“The whole point is to give the kids in this community something positive to go to and have a good time,” Brooks commented Tuesday. “Things are just so negative right now and we hope this will lift everyone’s spirits. We do want all the children in the county to know that this is not just for kids who attend church. It’s for everyone and we hope to see everyone out there enjoying the day with us.”

Arriving from the Bluegrass, along the western foothills of the Appalachians, is Live Fish, who will offer the group’s admiration for spiritual music during the festival.

While being dedicated to sharing the love of Jesus with everyone who listens to their music, Live Fish encourages listeners to take action and reach out to the “broken” world and anyone who might “desperately” need a Savior.

Along with Saturday’s music, folks can enjoy face painting, corn hole, volleyball, bouncing houses, and t-shirts galore.
