Olive Hill plans 4th of July Homecoming celebration

The City of Olive Hill is planning for a great big 4th of July Homecoming celebration. Activities are as follows:
• City Beautiful Window Display Contest
The business with the window display that best depicts the parade theme: “Freedom and Liberty for all!” will be presented a trophy and certificate on June 28, at 11 a.m. Both 2nd and 3rd place winners will also receive certificates. Call 606.286.5533 ext. 22 to register your window or for more information.
• Olive Hill Area Chamber of Commerce Homecoming Parade
2008 Parade theme: “Freedom and Liberty for all!”
Grand Marshalls will be the families of the 201st Eng. Bat. of the Army National Guard.
Lineup for the parade will begin at 10 a.m. and run through 12:45, with the parade at 1 p.m.
Concessions will be available at the OHES hosted by the Chamber.
The parade route will be from the Olive Hill Elementary School, down US 60 (Tom T. Hall Blvd.) west, turning left at the U.S. Post Office Downtown, on then to Railroad Street, and back east on railroad street all the way back up to the Hop Brown Memorial Park, and then returning to the school.

• Mayor Sparks to emcee the event
Emcee of the Event will be Olive Hill Mayor Danny Sparks, speaking from The Commercial Bank of Grayson, Olive Hill Office, found directly below the Old Olive Hill High School. A perfect viewpoint of the parade activities will be the hill in front of the Old High School. Go Radio will be reporting the parade activities live on location through the day. Once the Color Guard arrives at the Bank, Morgan McGlone, an Olive Hill Area Resident and vocalist, will be singing the National Anthem.
• Chamber hosting cookout for 201st families
Following the parade the families of the 201st will be returned to the OHES for unloading and then offered to stay and participate in a cookout organized by the Chamber. The Chamber will be providing the hotdogs, buns and sauce, and dessert. Pepsi Cola will be providing the refreshments. Please bring along your folding chair for seating.
• Collier to video day’s events
Tony Collier will be video taping the day’s event along with individuals being interviewed.
This video will be sent to the troops stationed overseas for viewing.
• Commercial Bank will have book for individuals to sign message to troops
The Commercial Bank, Olive Hill Office, has a book to be signed by individuals who want to send some words of encouragement to the troops currently deployed. It will be available Monday, June 23 through Thursday, July 3rd in their office. Everyone is encouraged to stop in and write a few words of encouragement to our fine folks in the 201st.
• Shrine Club Juvenile Horse Show
Carter County Shrine Club Juvenile Horse Show will be June 28, 6 -10 p.m. at the Carter County Shrine Club Park in Olive Hill.

• July 4th Fireworks Display
Sponsored by the Olive Hill Area Chamber of Commerce
Kentucky Back Roads Band will provide live music at the Depot on Railroad Street from 7-9 p.m. and immediately following the firework display.
