Olive Hill couple arrested

Tonia Noe-Rose

April 23, 2008 Two Olive Hill people were arrested in Morehead Friday on several drug charges after police discovered a bench warrant had been issued for one out of Carter County.

Robert Garvin, 37, and 34-year-old Glenna Gilliam were taken into custody about 9 p.m. after Rowan County Sheriff’s Deputy James Damron discovered the warrant on Garvin after stopping Garvin’s vehicle at the Christians Social Services parking lot, said Morehead Police Chief Mike Adams.

“He confirmed there was a warrant and called our guys for backup,” Adams commented Monday. “Officers Erik Caudill and Mark Hammons did a search of the vehicle and discovered a substantial amount of drugs.”

Garvin was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, third degree trafficking in a controlled substance, trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 yards and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Gilliam was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, second degree possession of a controlled substance, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, illegal possession of a ‘legend’ drug (not classified as a controlled substance but required a prescription), prescription drugs not in proper containers, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, and trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school. She was transported to the Carter county Detention Center where she remained Monday on a $2,500 full-cash bond and a $100 full-cash bond.

Garvin was taken to the Rowan County Detention Center where he is being held on $5,000 full-cash bond for the trafficking charges and a separate bond of $2,500 on charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, cocaine.

Rowan County also holds a bond of $500 on Garvin for failure to appear on a suspended license charge. Out of Carter County, Garvin faces charges of flagrant non-support of $5,138.32; cultivating marijuana five or more plants and trafficking in marijuana eight-ounces to one pound, first offense.
