Something for every senior

April 16, 2008 — There’s a lot of excitement in the air at the Senior Citizen Center in Grayson. Many new and familiar activities and projects are in the works.

New director, Barbara Rice, said she gave out surveys when she first started at the position to determine what projects and clubs the seniors would be interested in.

“I think a lot of local residents don’t know what all the center has to offer,” Rice said. “Income is not a factor at all, it is for all citizens 60 plus.”

Some of the new and upcoming projects at the center include a book club, genealogy club, greeting card club, basic computer classes, creative writing, gardening club, poetry club, exercise club and more.

“The seniors have even started their own newsletter, ‘The Golden Times’,” explained Rice.

April is National Volunteer Month and Rice said she wanted to thank the many volunteers who work hard to make so much possible at the center. Volunteers will be honored at the center on Thursday, April 24.

For more information on the center, or if transportation is needed call 474-4179. The center is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
