SATF has fun horse show

By Tonia Noe-Rose

April 16, 2008 Despite Saturday’s chilly temperatures, the SATF Horse Fun Show gathered riders from all over to help raise money to fight sexual abuse.

The Sexual Assault Task Force (Community/Campus) gang spent the past few months organizing the event that turned out to be a fun day for everyone involved and raised over $4,000 to help victims of sexual abuse.

As the day began at Morehead State University Farm, the first 100 people to pay admission received a nifty halter, complements some great sponsors.

Diane Rodgers, rape victim services coordinator for Pathways Inc. said the show seems to grow larger each year while attracting new folks from all over the area.

“I think we had an incredible turnout and the people were so supportive toward our cause,” Rodgers commented. “I was glad to see so many people that I hadn’t seen at the show before. Everyone had a great time and we were able to raise money to help victims of rape and sexual abuse.”

With 22 classes in all, the littlest of horse lovers gathered in the ring first with their well-groomed and very obedient stick horses. Although the judge just couldn’t make a decision as to which tiny rider and stick horse was best in show, so she gave them all blue ribbons.

The laughs began when a horse named Dynamite lost her riders Cody Rodgers and Micky Duncan of Olive Hill during the pick up rider class.

Rodgers had the reins as Duncan made a quick climb on the horse but soon hit the ground dragging Rodgers with him.

During the admission, pigs were squeelin’ as youngsters and even adults chased three different critters around the ring to win $20.

Then, the crowd really got fired up when Tonya Jessie of Grayson and her horse Biscuit tore up the ring during the speed racking class. Dirt was flying in all directions as Jessie and Biscuit lapped their components to win the blue ribbon.

Rodgers said the horse show would not be possible without all the sponsors and community support and thanks everyone for all they did to make the show a success.
