Meals on Wheels only possible thanks to volunteers

Dec. 11, 2013 — The editor:

Thank you to Grayson and Carter County.

At this season of the year, thanks must be extended to all who make Grayson Meals on Wheels a possibility in our community. There are more than fifty volunteer drivers who deliver meals on a Monday through Friday schedule. During the past year these drivers delivered an average of 650 meals each month. In order to cover the cost of the subsidized meals, we depend on the generosity of those in our community.

During the past year we have been blessed with dedicated volunteer drivers who use their own vehicles and fuel to deliver each meal. But the meals are available because of those who financially supported Grayson Meals on Wheels to meet a need in our community. Some are regular monthly supporters; others supported the “March for Meals” fund drive in the month of March; still others buy our tasty hamburgers served on hot summer evenings.

This year we had quite a few gifts given in memory of those who died. Therefore, a special thanks needs to be extended to all those in our community who gave memorial gifts to support Grayson Meals on Wheels. Also, it seems fitting to list the names of those who were remembered by their family, friends, and neighbors during the past year. The following had designated memorial gifts: Fred Buck, Sarah Maude Buck, Dessie Cherry, Jim Cherry, Mary Will DeSantis, and Ronnie Greenhill.
