"Dry" counties: in name only

June 5, 2013 — The editor:

For the record, anything bad that happened that was alcohol related in Grayson or Carter County over the last 76 years happened right in the middle of a "DRY" county.

Dry is a myth. Any stories of tragedy and mayhem from 1937 to now are further proof of that. It's also a fact that the legally "wetter" Kentucky has become the safer the roads have become. I don't have enough space here to put in charts but DUI statistics have fallen drastically from 1982 until now for the entire state. Legally regulated sales have always been better than any type of prohibition throughout American history.

Grayson will never be dry regardless of what happens on June 11, but only a YES vote will allow us to enjoy the benefits instead of Ashland, Morehead, and "other sources". Grayson, I promise those benefits will be many. The only thing a NO vote stops is progress for our town. People will tell you different but when they are wrong they are wrong.
