"Kids Against Hunger" well supported in Grayson

Journal-Times

May 1, 2013 — The editor:

How much does a meal cost, whether at a restaurant or at home? $2, $5, $10, $20? How about 25 cents? That's right! Twenty-five cents is all it cost to feed a person a meal through the Kids Against Hunger Meal Packs.

On April 20, several volunteers braved the cold and manned the intersection of Carol Malone Boulevard and Main Street to collect the funds needed to buy ingredients for a Kids Against Hunger Meal Pack-a-thon. Grayson showed up in full force during the bucket brigade. I have never been more proud of our small community as I saw windows roll down and hands stretch toward buckets as they got fuller and fuller.

After counting the proceeds I was even more proud and amazed. A total of $1,673 was collected during the three hours. Which adds up to 6,692 meals! The meals that are packed at our next pack -a- thon will be sent to Children's Lifeline Mission in La Digue, Haiti. I can assure everyone that donated that this is a very worthwhile charity. I have seen first hand these meals being accepted and enjoyed by those less fortunate. I have personally fed hungry children their one meal a day from these packs and offered widows packs to feed the children that they must supply food for without assistance. And I guarantee that many will reap the benefits from the donations that were received from the citizens of Grayson.

I can't thank everyone for their great generosity shown during the collection. It really makes it easy to say you are proud to be from Carter County at times like this.
