Get priorities straight when voting on Carter County issues

Dec. 19, 2012 — The editor:

    "Which is most important?"

What do we the people of Carter county need most, legal alcohol sales or a hospital? Why waste time trying to get legal booze when we should be trying to get a hospital for the people, not to mention good jobs? My husband's job took us to Craig, Colorado a few years ago, and there was a little hospital there (The Memorial Hospital), with 15 beds. In fact, my youngest grandchild was born there. So don't tell me there isn't room in Grayson for a hospital. I know that people who want to drink will find a way, but even they would have to admit that they along with everyone else would benefit from a hospital. There are many places where it could be built. Instead of seeing our tax dollars go for something destructive, let's put them to good use. By destructive, think of all of the downsides to having easy access to alcohol. More impaired drivers, more sickness, more crime, more abuse and neglect of families.

Instead of preying on people's weaknesses, let's make Carter County strong with worthwhile jobs and healthcare. This is one person's opinion, but I hope and pray that I am not the only one. If anyone knows how to get this put on a ballot and let us the people vote, please do it. Remember what the Bible says:

James 4:15: For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
