In appreciation of Pastor Barrell

Feb. 26, 2014 — The editor:

Some members of the Lower Grassy Church of Christ, in my opinion, should hang their heads in shame. On February 23, 2014 a wonderful man of God and their Pastor Larry Barrell was dismissed from preaching.

For 29 years Pastor Barrell and his wife, Clevie have dedicated their lives to living for God and their church. Yes, Pastor Barrell’s memory was slipping a little, but let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

After searching many churches my son fell in love with this church. The way Pastor Barrell welcomed my young son is the reason he could not wait for Sunday mornings. At seven years of age my son suddenly said he needed to be baptized just like Jesus in the river. Pastor Barrell baptized my son in the river with no hesitation and glorious joy. After 29 years of service Pastor & Mrs. Barrell deserved so much better than what they got in return from the congregation.

To the congregation: there are no words adequate enough to describe the “send off” or, in my opinion, “booted out the door” that these fine folks received. Some of you need to take a deep look within your hearts and check to see if the Lord is pleased with you. To Pastor Larry and Mrs. Clevie Barrell: I want to personally thank you from the bottom of my heart for your commitment and loyalty to a congregation that was unappreciative of you. My family wishes to honor you both for your kindness, leadership and Christ-like lifestyle. You have both been a wonderful example of Christian love and that is exactly what Jesus expects from us. May God Bless You Both
