Asking for official attention to wire theft

Journal-Times

Dec. 4, 2013 — The editor:

I've been without home phone service for two days because of thieves stealing phone line at Fultz. This is not a new crime, it happens a lot near my grandmother's and my uncle's off the AA highway.

My question is, when neighbors try to report people "burning cable" they get the run around? After I posted on my personal Facebook page, several people have told me they've called the Grayson Police Department only to be told call the Sheriff's office, only to be told call the KSP only to be told call the fire department.

So I have to ask why, when someone's burning a large amount of cable on their property and a citizen tries to report it, why will no one do anything about it?

I believe stealing cable is closely related to drug activity. Are the authorities afraid they'll actually have to arrest someone? Almost everyone I heard from on Facebook said the people they know to be burning cable are also dealing drugs.

Yes I am mad about not having phone service, but I am more concerned that tips about a serious crime are going unanswered by our police forces.
