Letters to the Editor

November 28, 2007 Editor,

On November 17, the Venturing Youth Group at the First Baptist Church fed 86 people for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

We would like to thank all of the businesses that supplied food and helped make this possible: Family Dollar, S&T IGA, Slone’s Market, Superior Foods, Dairy Queen, Jr. Food Mart, Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken (Morehead), Super Wal-Mart (Cannonsburg) and Kroger (Morehead).

Thanks once again!

First Baptist Church Venturing Group

Editor,

There are some people in this world that touch the lives of everyone that they have encountered throughout their lifetime. There are some people that are continuously giving out to others and never expecting anything in return. And, there are some people that are surrounded by love, because love is all that they have ever given out.

Rebecca (Skippy) Jackson is one of those people. She has given out to others her whole entire life, whether they are her family, friends or a perfect stranger. There is no way that she could be repaid for her wonderful contribution she has made to all of us, but we would like to try.

Saturday, Nov. 24, Skippy turned 60 years old. Throughout those 60 years she has done so much for us, so we wanted to do something for her in return. We gave her the biggest birthday party that we possibly could. Her family, friends and co-workers gave her a surprise 60th birthday party Tuesday, November 20 to try and show her how much we care about her.

Skippy has worked in the East Carter High School cafeteria for 28 years, where she is currently the manager.

We figured there would be no better place to give her a party than the place where she has worked for so long. So many people came to this party to show her their appreciation. We feel like this was the biggest party that has happened in Carter County. Not only did friends, family and co-workers come to this, but also the over 800 students at ECHS celebrated with her by making her cards and singing to her.

To all of us, there is no one else on this earth that deserves this anymore than her. She has been such a big part of our lives. To some of us she is more than just a friend. She is a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, a listener, a giver and a child of God.

This is to you Skippy, we love you so much and hope that your 60th birthday celebration was something you will remember for the rest of your life.

We love you,

Nicole (Glancy) Yates (granddaughter)

Editor,

I am seeking information on Gova Mocabee. He is buried in the Parker/Turner Cemetery in Elliottville. I think he was a merchant and postmaster in Elliottville. His parents, David and Anna Brinegar Mocabee are buried in the Mocabee Cemetery on Mocabee Creek in Carter County.

I would like to correspond with anyone who has more information on him.

Lloyd Dean, 6770 U.S. 60 East, Morehead, KY 40351.

Thank you,

Lloyd Dean
