Letters to the Editor
August 20, 2008 —
Editor,
Thanks for support in blood drives
On Wednesday, July 30, the Commercial Bank of Grayson, Olive Hill office hosted an American Red Cross Blood Drive. There were 17 presenting donors, with 12 unites of blood collected. The Olive Hill Slone’s Signature Market and Jr. Food Mart made donations of food.
Then on Tuesday, Aug. 12, the Olive Hill church of the Nazarene hosted a Kentucky Blood Center blood drive in there fellowship hall with 15 presenting donors and 15 units collected. (Five were first time donors). Olive Hill Slone’s Market made donations of food.
I want to ay a big “thank you” for each one that came out to give ‘the gift of life’ and for each one that supported the blood drives in anyway. Also, a big thank you goes out to the volunteers from the high school and the Nazarene Church as I couldn’t have had the blood drives without their help.
Thank you,
Twanita Cooper
Coordinator and volunteer for the blood drives, and employee and the Commercial Bank of Grayson
Editor,
Our team, Andee's Angels, participated in the Carter County Relay for Life event for the first time this year. Without the aid and support of many individuals and businesses Andee's Angels would not have been able to exceed our team fundraising goal and thus see our hope of fighting back against cancer come to fruition. In addition to each and every individual who donated to our team in any way, we would like to thank the following businesses as well:
T&H Janitorial Service
IGA
Slone's Signature Markets
The Olive Hill Times
Dairy Queen
Heiners Bakery
McDonalds
Buffalo Wild Wings
Lee's
Sealmaster
A&A Sanitation
Flashback Framing Gallery
Globe Hardwood
Cindy's Beauty Salon
Dave's Airbrush
Holbrook's Embroidery Plus
Special thanks to Larry Carroll, Patrick Patterson and his family, Tammy Lewis, Chris Lofton, Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus, the employees of Sealmaster, Etta and Steve French, Buck and Sheila Rayburn, Katherine Duncan, and those who donated yard sale items and goods for our food sales. Also, to everyone who helped with preparations the night of the Relay and showed up to walk all those laps, a huge thank you.
Andee's Angels team members, I can not thank each of you enough for your hard work and dedication. Several of you worked countless hours in securing donations and preparing for fundraisers. Your generosity is appreciated more than you could ever know, because you have truly helped to honor Andrea and all those who are battling or have battled cancer, while at the same time helping the ACS in its endless efforts to take a stand against this deadly disease.
Sincerely,
Melissa Arthurs, Team Captain Andee's Angels
