Letters to the Editor
March 12, 2008 —
Editor,
My name is Crystal Reimer, formerly Crystal Linhart. I used to live in Olive Hill with my mom. I am looking for my friend Mary Elizabeth Kilgore. She lives in Olive Hill, last I knew. It’s important that I get in contact with her. My mother was very close to Mary and on Feb. 21st of 2008 she suddenly passed away at the age of 45. No one knows why. Mary is 23 years old and has a young son Christopher.
Thank you.
Crystal Reimer

Editor,
The decision to foster children could be the most rewarding decision you can make. It is not HARD to become a foster parent – you do not have to be wealthy, you do not have to be married, you do not need to have kids of your own and you do not have to have a PhD in child psychology. You do have to have:
Heart, Desire to make a difference, willing to adapt to new situations and have the self assurance that you can make a difference for the betterment of each child that comes through your home.
All children need to feel safe, happy, warm and cared about. Many of them that will come to your home has never been allowed to be a carefree child and is weighed down with survival needs. Welcome them; make them feel safe and cared about. You will be amazed at the difference you can make. Some of the children has probable never slept an entire night in their own bed in their own p.j.’s. Most of them have been scared if and when they will get to what they may get to eat. No Child In Our Country Should Have To Worry About These Things! But, they do! Probably more then you could guess. All children, in my opinion, have the God-given right to be happy, warm and care about. They should be able to lie in their bed at night knowing nothing will happen, secure in fact that their dreams won’t be interrupted and not feeling that everyone knows what has happened in the past.
We have been Foster Parents for twelve plus years and have had the pleasure of having an impact on 61 children. We have had a lot of situations but there is not one of those kids that has not been rewarding to have in our home. Our HOPE is always that they take with them – when they leave – some of the care and love we have in our hearts for them. And, I would want them to know they are forever imprinted in our hearts.
If you think you have what it takes to make a child feel loved, safe, and cared about – call your local Department of Social Services for training dates or more information.
If you are on the border of deciding, feel free to call me at 738-6613, may not be able to answer all your questions, but I will refer to people who can.
Again, Do not just keep talking and thinking about it – Just Do It!
Ruth Peters
