Your help is needed
Editor,
The Hitchins Preservation Society, Inc. has owned Hitchins School and all the buildings on its campus since Sept. 2007. In the1 1/2 years we have worked diligently on fundraisers to support our renovations projects.
As this time we have finished renovation of the former science building, which has been renamed, Isaac Performing Arts Building.
All walls have been repaired and painted and the floor has all new tiles. Five-window air conditioning units have been purchased and installed, both restrooms renovated and a kitchen completely furnished.
Our dining room has 10 tables that could accommodate 60 people for sit down dinners. The auditorium has 150 chairs that have been purchased with donations from Hitchins alumni.
Every room in the main building has been renovated and the restrooms have been made handicap accessible. This building will house the Eastern KY Railroad Museum, a library operated by volunteers, a local history room and much more.
We have been forced to “mothball” two very important buildings, the gymnasium and the cafeteria.
With stimulus money being made available for shovel ready projects, we should have an excellent opportunity to qualify for these monies.
Receiving this money would assure completion of all the work, and at the same time, stimulate the economy by providing employment for those without jobs and spending money by purchasing materials from local businesses.
We are once again are asking for your support to help us preserve our state historical building and make it useful again. Please show your support by writing, emailing or calling our representatives.

Thanks for help
Editor,
The Rowen Family would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to put together the benefit for John. To all individuals and businesses that made donations, thank you.
A special thanks to Heritage Elementary School and to the band Cheap Wine that performed and also the boys from the Flat.
We appreciate everything that as done.
John and Linda Rowen.
Dream continues
Editor,
The park has been the dream of many for several years…and for the most part is still in the “dream” stage. Changes are being made.
Recently through the help and support of others, ECMS students have been able to be a part of the Wetlands being developed at the park.
Because of the closeness to ECMS, our students have benefited greatly and will continue to benefit from this project. With the completion of the park, many others can take advantage of the opportunities that the park can provide.
We want you to join our TEAM. East Carter Middle School and Grayson JFL, as well as many parent and community volunteers are working together to get the football field area of the Community Park developed.
Our teams travel to other areas to play in grids just because we are not able to offer the facilities to host such events.
Business that could be in Grayson/Carter County is taken instead to other places. As with everything, money is the need.
With the economy as it is we are trying to ask as sparingly as we can. Our request is a $270 donation that will be used to complete the fence for ECMS/JFL Field and purchase advertisement banners.
Usually, each year organizations ask for another donation to continue to display the banner. We would make your donation good for a two-year period.
Completing this park benefits us – Carter County – in so many ways. The park, when completed, would give our children, our families, our schools and our community a nice place to do fun activities; a place to be proud of; a place for other communities to desire to come to. Contributions can be made to ECMS/JFL Field Fund
