Letters to the Editor

January 23, 2008 Editor,

It has been some time since I have sent out a report on the Soldier to Soldiers Project.

First off, I want to thank the following for their monetary and merchandise donations, which we could not operate without:

Glenna Thompson, Sloanâs Market of Olive Hill, Morehead Wal-Mart, Magelane Clark, Eva Bailey, John Baileyâs Heirloom Seeds and Dora Buckner. I would like to give special thanks to the ladies from Oldtown Christian Church who brought in enough merchandise that we were able to send out nine boxes for Christmas. This is the second time they have done this.

All the names we have at present time are old names, and most of these people are on their way home or will be shortly. For that we are extremely grateful and thank God for every one of them that made it home safely. But we cannot continue our work without some more names and addresses. We need names of armed forces personnel who are serving over in the Iraq and Afghanistan area. It doesnât make any difference where they are from. If you know of anyone serving there, please let one of the ladies listed at the bottom know, either by letter, phone call, or e-mail.

I know times are hard, but we still need donations of money and merchandise. If you have merchandise you would like to donate, again, please contact one of the ladies at the bottom. If you would like to make a donation of money, it can be made to any of these ladies, or you can take it to the First National Bank of Grayson or Olive Hill, and they will deposit it to our account. Any help would be appreciated.

You may reach the following ladies at:

Jo Ann Conley PO Box 331, Soldier, KY (606) 286-2025

Bernice Lawson PO Box 254, Soldier, KY (606) 286-2724

Eva Bailey (606) 286-5145 or e-mail at: losthillslady@yahoo.com

Again, we wish to thank all the people who have made this project a success.

Eva Bailey, Soldier to Soldiers

Editor,

Recently I read a story in your paper about Robert Drown. He hit a man and the jail is having problems with him.

The jailer put him in isolation to protect him and the other inmates…to protect their “rights”, right!

He is accused of killing my daughter and two precious grandchildren. He’s got rights.

Did he give any of my children any rights?

Did he ask my daughter and grandchildren if they wanted to wait before he (allegedly) cut Jennifer’s throat, (allegedly) killed Shanna with blunt force trauma to the head and (allegedly) burnt Marissa up in their mobile home?

What rights did he give them?

The jailer acts likes he wants to get rid of Drown so he won’t have to bother with him.

Is he scared of him?

He is an elected official.

If he can’t handle the job we need to have a bad man contest and get the meanest and bad-est man and hire him.

Judge Charlie Wallace wants to move him because he’s costing too much money.

How stupid do the officials think we are in Carter County…that we could open up a jail without any insurance on the inmates?

You cannot serve the public without insurance.

We pay county taxes – jail tax. It’s not coming out of county.

They just want to get rid of him.

I know there are at least 500 to 600 people in this county I am related to and they have to pay tax every time you turn around.

We pay the bills for them and the money to feed them.

He’s got more privileges than he ever gave my children.

His family is all upset because he is in isolation.

When it comes to his rights – they exceed three deaths.

What is wrong with this state and the U.S?

The bible says an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. He has them both.

My children have nothing but grieving parents and friends awaiting, heaven.
