Five KCU players named to All-NCCAA Team

Jan. 8, 2014 — The National Christian College Athletic Association has announced the 2013 All-NCCAA-II Football Squads.

Five players from Kentucky Christian University were recognized for their outstanding performance during the 2013 season.

Blake Clowes, a junior from Hilliard, Ohio, is the center on the offensive line, and he is studying education at KCU. He wears No. 74, and played at Hilliard Darby High School. He was a 2013 Football Gameplan NAIA Pre-Season All-America selectee. Clowes was named All-NCCAA First Team Offense.

Marvin Newkirk, a senior from Indiantown, Fla., is a defensive lineman and nose guard. He is studying education at KCU. Newkirk wears No. 97, and graduated from South Fork High School in the West Palm Beach area. He was a Pre-Season All-America selection, and was recently named to the AFCA-NAIA All-America second team. Newkirk was KCU football’s first ever All-America selection and he was named All-NCCAA First Team Defense.

Andrew Stewart, a junior from Cadiz, is an inside linebacker. He graduated from Trigg County High School and is majoring in education. He wears No. 12, and was the Mid-South Conference and NAIA Defensive Player of the Week during Week 7 of the 2013 Season, for his performance against Lindsey Wilson, in which he had 14 tackles, including two sacks and two tackles for loss, two interceptions, one touchdown, and one fumble recovery. Stewart was named All-NCCAA First Team Defense.

Mike Ritter Jr. is a junior from the Memphis, Tenn. area. He graduated from Ridgeway High School and is studying business administration at KCU. Ritter is No. 30, and plays the cornerback position. He was named to the All-NCCAA Defensive 2nd Team.

Darryl Jones, No. 94, is a junior majoring in University Studies. He is from Goose Creek, S.C. and a graduate of Goose Creek High School. A defensive end for the Knights, he is an All-NCCAA Football Defense Honorable Mention.

Coach Gene Peterson had this to say about the players receiving these superlatives: “We are proud of the young men selected for these honors by the NCCAA. These are outstanding young men both on and off the field, and each is truly deserving of this recognition. The Christ-centered commitment to excellence that they have well represents our football program and Kentucky Christian University.”

    The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Mid-South Conference announced the selections for their All-Conference Squads on Nov. 20. Kentucky Christian University’s football program had eight players distinguished.
