Knights lose relocated home game

Nov. 2, 2011 —     Heavy rains forced Kentucky Christian University to move Saturday’s home contest. The change of venue did not prevent a close game, with Campbellsville sneaking out a 24-21 win in the final minutes.

The loss dropped KCU to 3-6 in just the program’s second season of varsity play.

While Saturday’s weather was sunny and pleasant, standing water from previous rains left KCU’s temporary home field flooded and unusable.

The Knights relocated to Huntington High School where they met with Campbellsville.

Freshman Knight Graham Johnston got the action started early, hitting Caleb Cox for an 84-yard scoring strike on KCU’s first possession.

The two were at it again later in the half, hooking up for a second time to give the Knights a 14-0 advantage.

Campbellsville responded with a touchdown of its own to draw to 14-7.

KCU’s defense was on its heels again on Campbellsville’s next drive but Josh Cobb grabbed a pick to give possession to the Knights.

Graham Johnston to Beau Dailey has been a lethal combination for the Knights in 2011, and the two showed Campbellsville why.

Johnston capped off the drive with a scoring strike to Dailey, to give Kentucky Christian a 21-7 lead.

KCU moved into scoring position again but failed to capitalize, setting the score at 21-7 at the half.

Kentucky Christian held strong for most of the second half.

Campbellsville finally broke through in the game’s closing minutes. Taking advantage of late fumbles by the Knight offense, Campbellsville manufactured enough scoring to steal the win at 24-21.

KCU will be home Saturday to play Bethel in the season’s final home game. The game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
