KCU inks Southeastern Kentucky standout

July 3, 2013 — The Kentucky Christian women’s basketball team has signed a standout from the deep, dark hills of Eastern Kentucky.

Sarah Evans, a forward from Harlan County High School, signed her letter of intent to play for the Lady Knights this upcoming season.

KCU Women’s Coach Ron Arnett told the Harlan Daily Enterprise, “Sarah is an outstanding young lady who loves God and is serious about her faith.”

Arnett added: “She has size and is an outstanding player with her back to the basket. Our starting post player will be a senior this season, and Sarah will be able to learn a lot from her. Sarah has good hands and feet. She will pick up our system quickly as she has a very active mind for basketball. I believe she will be an outstanding player for us. Sarah is a really great fit for our program.”

In her final season with the Lady Bears, Evans averaged 10 points and eight rebounds

She shot 64 percent from the field, which was ranked fourth in the state in that statistical category. Evans helped Harlan County post a 26-6 record, in helping the Lady Bears to the semifinals of the 13th Region Tournament. They would succumb to Corbin, the eventual champion Corbin by the score of 47-43.

Evans is one of the winningest players in Harlan County history, compiling 91 wins during her four years in the program.

Kentucky Christian is no stranger to success when Evans joins the program this fall.

The Lady Knight finished the 2012-13 season 18-16. They advanced to the third round of the National Christian College Athletic Association Division II National Tournament, but lost to Trinity Baptist College in the third round.

The Lady Knight’s program has won 15 national championships, including six straight before ending that streak last year. Evans will come right in and be the tallest player on the roster a 6-foot. KCU will return eight players from last season.
