KCU basketball sweeps Johnson University

Jan. 22, 2014 —

Johnson controlled the opening tap, and hit a three-point basket to start the game. KCU took the ball down, and missed three shots before turning over. JU was out to a 7-0 lead before KCU put point on the board, the second of 2 free throws by Jana Glick. Allie Slone and Sharonda each scored to make it 10-5. Tanya Bowens scored moments later, making the score 12-8 Johnson. This basket made Bowens only the second Lady Knight to score over 2000 points in her career. At the 3:30 mark, Johnson was up 26-23, and KCU narrowed this gap to 2 at the half.

After the break, it was a different game altogether for the Lady Knight players. They took charge, and took the lead rather quickly, and did not look back. They widened the gap to 15, and finished the game with a margin of 13, at 78-65. Johnson's Madi Phillippe had 21, and each of the remaining JU starters had either 10 or 11 points. Monica Stevens for KCU had a double-double, with 10 points and 15 boards, while Allie Slone scored 13. Bowens finished with 35 points, while fellow senior Sharonda Jones had nine and junior Jana Glick scored eight to go with her eight boards. Katelyn Meyer had only two points, but she had several really nice baskets scored from the four assists she dished.
