Honors across the board for KCU Lady Knights

March 28, 2012 —     A 29-win season capped off with a sixth-straight NCCAA Division II Title made for another successful year of KCU Lady Knights’ hoops.

    In recognition of KCU’s success, a number of Lady Knights were honored for their exceptional play on the floor and work in the classroom. A unified team effort enabled KCU to complete another run towards a National Championship, along with a number of spectacular individual performances. 

    Junior guard Kaycee Denton, from Vanceburg, was named as a member of the NCCAA Academic All-American team. Denton received this honor for her hard work in the classroom, maintaining a high GPA to balance her time as a student and athlete.   

    Senior guard Courtney Green, from Palm Bay, FL, also joined Denton on the NCCAA Academic All-American team. Green earned this honor as student of the prestigious KCU Nursing School.

    Senior guard Autumn Carter from Salem, OH, joined fellow senior Weddle as the second KCU player of the season to make the 1,000-point club. She was named a member of the NCCAA All-American Academic team, a member of the Mid-South Region 1st team, a member of the NCCAA All-American 1st team, the NCCAA Player of the year, and a member of the CCSN All-American team.

    Ashley Savage, senior center from from Lakewood, CO, rounded out the Academic All-American team honors for KCU, in addition to grabbing honorable mention honors for Mid-East Region team. Savage, Green and Denton all maintained a 3.4 GPA in order to pick up their Academic All-American accolades.

    Senior Guard Tara Weddle from West Liberty had a successful senior campaign. On December 6, 2011, she became the newest member of the KCU Lady Knights 1,000-point club, while also recently named a member of the Mid-East Region 2nd team, a member of the NCCAA All-America 2nd team, a member of the CCSN All-American team, and NCCAA National All Tournament team. 

    Youth proved its strength as well for the Lady Knights, with sophomore guard Tanya Bowens from Louisa, being named a member of the Mid-East Region first team, the Mid-East Region player of the year, a member of the NCCAA All-American first team, a member of the NCCAA National Tournament all-tournament team, the National Tournament MVP, a member of the CCSN All-American team and the CCSN Player of the year. This is the second year in a row that Tanya has earned all of these awards.

    The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Mid-South Conference announced the selections for their All-Conference Squads on Nov. 20. Kentucky Christian University’s football program had eight players distinguished.
