KCU football falls to No. 2 Cumberlands

Nov. 13, 2013 — The Kentucky Christian University football team made the long trek to the Williamsburg this past Saturday to take on the No. 2 and undefeated University of the Cumberlands.

The Patriots had their senior day and homecoming as the Knights were looking to end a two-game slide.

However, the Patriot offense had other ideas as the Cumberlands blanked the Knights 38-0.

The Patriots' D'Angelo Jordan put the first score on the board on a 64-yard touchdown run with a little more than two minutes remaining in the first quarter. They scored three times in the second quarter, first on a field goal, then on a short run, and the third time after intercepting a Matt Ogle to Trey Strunk pass and returning it 37 yards for the score.

The Knights were unable to put points on the board during the game, but they held the Patriots to one TD in the third and one in the forth.

The Knight offense made 13 first downs, compared to the Patriots' 21. But the big factor was the total offense; KCU had only 117 total yards, while Cumberlands tallied 380 yards of total offense. Each team lost a fumble, while KCU gave up three interceptions.

The KCU defense was led by Andrew Stewart with 11 tackles, Josh Cobb with 10, and Darryl Jones and Ryan Whetzel both contributed with nine. Matt Ogle was 5-of-13 for 61 yards, and Cody Sabol was 1-of-4 for nine yards.

KCU is now 3-7, and they return home next Saturday for the final game of the regular season, taking on Faulkner University. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
