Lady Knights rule Alice Lloyd

Dec. 14, 2011 —     Beating a team three times in a single season is a feat many basketball teams rarely accomplish.

The Lady Knights of Kentucky Christian University achieved it with flying colors last Friday night in Grayson, defeating Alice Lloyd, 61-51.

Coming into the game with a record of 11-1, KCU’s women’s had already experienced two previous hard fought battles with the Lady Eagles.

The story of this game turned out to be a quite different as the Lady Knights jumped out to an early lead at halftime, 37-18.

With tenacious defense and a commanding presence on the boards, KCU out rebounded Alice Lloyd 30-15 in the first half.

Big scoring nights from Tanya Bowens with 14 and Autumn Carter with 12 helped to build the big lead in the first half.

Lady Knights Head Coach Ron Arnett seemed pleased with his team’s effort in the first half.

“In the first half I thought we played really well,” Arnett said. “We passed the ball well, were good in transition, and it was a great effort on both the offensive and defensive ends.”

The Lady Eagles of Alice Lloyd came out in the second half to let KCU’s women know that they would not go down without a fight. Alice Lloyd actually outscored the Lady Knights in the final half, 33-24, making the score respectable with KCU claiming victory, 61-51.

Arnett and his Lady Knights went on to play Moody Bible the next day, winning, 64-38.

The Lady Knights now look to the holiday season and a two-week break before  preparing for the second half of the season.

“We have a pretty big break coming up,” Arnett said. “It’s good for our team as a whole to step away and assess our performance up to this point. We will head to Oklahoma City on the 29th to do some mission work in addition to playing a little basketball, which is a great thing as well.”
