Premature baby survives mother's death

July 5, 2013 —        Jacquelyn Jordan, 26, of Olive Hill, died Friday after a fall at a private residence in Carter County but emergency room physicians at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead were able to safely deliver her premature baby girl.

Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt said the fetus was estimated at 26 weeks and was taken to the neo-natal intensive care unit at the UK Medical Center. The child's condition was not available Friday evening.

Jordan's body was transported to the state medical examiner's office in Frankfort for an autopsy. She was a nursing student at Morehead State University.

She apparently fell down a flight of stairs while experiencing some type of medical problem, according to the coroner. She reportedly had a history of heart problems.

Northcutt said Carter County EMS was transporting her to St. Claire when she stopped breathing. Unsuccessful efforts to resuscitate her continued through the delivery of the child.

Jordan's death remains under investigation by Northcutt and Kentucky State Police Det. Paul Kelley.
