Sept. 28, 2012 —

A Vanceburg woman was killed Friday afternoon in a collision with a tractor trailer.

Mary R. Logan, 53, was traveling east on I62 around 2:30 Friday when she apparently lost control of her car.

According to a preliminary investigation by Kentucky State Police, Logan’s car struck the guardrail and then went back onto the interstate and into the path of Terry Anders, 55, of Grassy Creek, N.C., who was also heading east.  Anders struck Logan and traveled through a guardrail and over an embankment.

Logan was pronounced dead at the scene by Carter County Coroner George Sparks. Logan was not wearing a seat belt and at this time alcohol does not appear to be a factor.  Anders and passenger Melynda Anders, age 49, were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision and were not injured.

At the time of the collision the roadway was wet and visibility was limited due to heavy rain.

Multiple agencies responded including Carter County Sheriff’s Department, Olive Hill Police Department, Olive Hill Fire Department, Carter County EMS, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Kentucky EPA, Grahn Fire Department, Carter County Emergency Management and the Carter County Coroner’s Office.

The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Jim Ryland.
