June 19, 2013 —
Carter County will join more than 5,100 other communities across the world this year in hosting a Relay For Life event.
The public is invited to attend and be a part of this event that gives everyone an opportunity to fight back against cancer
This year’s teams made and /or decorated wall hangings that will be sold in a live auction after the Team Lap Friday night.
One of the most touching activities of the evening is the Luminaria Ceremony, which will be held at dusk. Tammy Nischan will be our speaker this year. “
“Luminarias, decorated with the names of those remembered and those honored, are lit and left glowing throughout the night to remind everyone of the importance of their contributions.”
The luminarias have a recommended contribution of $10 each, with a minimum donation of $5, and may be purchased the night of Relay, with all funds going to Relay.
Bowling explains, “This will be our second year we have added a celebration where sky lanterns (small hot air balloons) will be released during the luminaria ceremony.
These sky lanterns have a recommended donation of $25 and can be purchased at the Relay event or reserved ahead of time by emailing or calling Linda Arnett at firstname.lastname@example.org or 606-255-0573.
FIGHT BACK CEREMONY
In the morning at 6 a.m. a fight back ceremony will be held for everyone to pledge to fight back against cancer. This night is all about fighting back.
