Aug. 15, 2012 — Jail consultant Joey Stanton will be off the county payroll at the end of this week, Carter Judge-Executive Charles Wallace confirmed Wednesday afternoon to the Journal-Times.
Stanton had been employed to assist Carter and Boyd counties in developing plans for a regional jail authority to serve both counties.
He also reportedly is ending his relationship with Boyd Fiscal Court.
Contacted later Wednesday, Stanton declined to comment.
Fiscal Court members in each county have approved ordinances to create the authority but their actions have been challenged in court.
The Kentucky Jailers Association, Carter Jailer R. W. Boggs and Boyd Jailer Joe Burchett filed suit in Franklin Circuit Court to invalidate the agreement to establish a regional jail authority.
Wallace said the lawsuit is delaying the jail project and there is no work for Stanton to perform at this time.
“We can always bring him back if we need further assistance,” he said.
