July 9, 2012 —

The body of a Russell man was recovered from Grayson Lake Monday morning.

Brandon Lucas Bailey, 28, slipped on the rocks at Water Fall during Sunday night’s storm and fell 50 feet into the water below.

Bailey, who was at the popular hang out with some coworkers, was a cook at Fat Patty’s restaurant in Ashland.

Elliott County Coroner Mark Lewis told the media that the search for Bailey began Sunday around 7 p.m.

Scott Boyd, of Ashland Fire Department made the recovery and Baily was brought to the surface around 11:30 a.m.

Members of the Grayson, Ashland, and Lexington dive teams, as well as Elliott County and Salt Lick Fire Departments assisted the Corp of Engineers and Kentucky Fish and Wildlife in the search.

“We have no reason to believe that this was anything more than a horrible accident,” Lewis said.  “Kids don’t seem to understand that there are rocks and stumps and trees under the surface and that it can be very dangerous.  Too many kids don’t heed the warning and continue to jump, and you keep seeing these things happen.”

Bailey’s body will be transported to Frankfort for an autopsy.
