April 8, 2013 — A two-year murder investigation culminated Monday in the arrest of Kyle S. Holbrook, 20, of Olive Hill.
Holbrook was indicted the same day by an Elliott County grand jury in the April 2011 death of Paul Dillon (Nemo) Bryant, 19, also of Olive Hill.
He was arrested by Kentucky State Police Det. Toby Gardner while incarcerated at the Rowan County Detention Center on drug trafficking charges.
Holbrook was originally indicted for three counts of trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school between Jan. 11 and March 8 in Rowan County.
Monday’s indictment in Elliott County was for murder and for tampering with physical evidence in the death of Bryant. He is being held without bond.
The investigation began when Bryant’s body was recovered April 3, 2011, from an Elliott County farm pond after an extensive missing person search.
An autopsy revealed that he had died as the result of a gunshot wound before being dumped into the pond.
The case drew widespread attention in Carter County. Authorities said dozens of leads were generated by a reward posted by the Bryant family.
The victim made his home with an aunt, Pam Carroll, who died last year in an automobile accident near Olive Hill.
