Fiscal Court approves budget, IGA

By Leeann Akers - Editor

March 28, 2013 — In what may have been the briefest meeting in history, less than five minutes, the Fiscal Court held a special meeting on Thursday morning.

The court passed three agenda items, including a payment to Carter County Emergency Services for $20,619.20, the first reading of the 2013-14 jail budget, and a rate increase for federal inmates.

The proposed jail budget is slightly larger than the current year, including an additional $68,100 for additional payroll, and an expected $35,000 in additional revenue from federal prisoner payments.

Judge Executive Charles Wallace publically thanked Mary Ellen Greenhill and Sen. Mitch McConnell for their help in getting a rate increase for federal prisoners.  The council approved the new rate of $54 per day for each inmate and a $10 an hour increase for prisoner transport.

Wallace said the final contract had not arrived and he would need the court to vote again before he signed the document.

The next regular meeting of the Fiscal Court will be held April 16 at 10 a.m.
