Grayson city council holds monthly meeting

April 9, 2013 — The Grayson City Council held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday night.

Council voted to act as a conduit for the Grayson branch of the county library to apply for new leasing.

Spokeswoman Barbara Davis said the library will use the Governmental Leasing Act to apply for a $120,000 loan with a lower interest rate.

The money will be used to purchase the old Houck Furniture building on Main Street and renovate the space.

"We will have to do some extensive upgrades," Davis said. "But we will be paying a lot less than the rent we pay now."

The Grayson branch of the library is currently located north of I64, just outside the city limits.

Department reports included code enforcement, emergency management, fire, police, street, and parks and recreation.

Much of the time was devoted to discussion about a full time clerk for the police department.  Council was split on the vote but Mayor George Steele voted for the motion and a full time clerk will be on duty May 1.

"I see the need for a full time clerk there to serve the citizens," Steele said.  "I feel like it's the right thing to do."

Council approved the reading of a resolution establishing a City of Grayson area Recreation Board.  The board of nine members will be appointed by the mayor.

Council approved the second reading of the noise ordinance and the budget amendment.

Council will hold a budget workshop on April 23 at 5 p.m.
