July 27, 2012 — Heavy rains from Thursday night’s storms resulted in flash flooding throughout areas of western Carter County.
Emergency personnel were dispatched just after 2 a.m. to State Route 1025 to rescue Donna Justice and her daughter, Karen, from their mobile home that pulled from its foundation by the flooding.
According to Emergency Manager Tommy Thompson, the home was swept somewhere between 200 and 500 feet downstream.
Several other mobile homes on the same road suffered minor flood damage as well.
The overnight flood also impacted Carter Caves State Resort Park. Downed trees could be seen lining the park’s roadways, which themselves were missing huge chunks of asphalt in some places.
No flood-related injuries have been reported.
