Four arrested on meth charges

July 3, 2013 —

Four Carter County residents were arrested late Tuesday night on meth-related charges along U.S. 60 near a motel in Cannonsburg.

Four meth labs were found in a vehicle that left the Walmart in Cannonsburg and pulled into the parking lot of a nearby motel. The vehicle had no tags on it, and deputies with the Boyd County Sheriff's department pulled the driver over.

Deputies observed meth-making materials and smoke coming out of a soft drink bottle inside the car.

Adrienne Smith, 28, of Grayson, and Joseph Johnson, 22, Jason Lewis, 30, and April Swanigan, 23, all of Olive Hill, are all charged with manufacturing meth and unlawful possession of meth precursor.

Smith also was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon.

Swanigan had a warrant out for a previous meth charge and was charged with possession of a controlled substance

Deputies say the arrests resulted from multiple complaints by people in the area who reported seeing suspects coming in and out of Walmart multiple times with meth-making materials and getting into the same vehicle.

All four remain incarcerated at the Boyd County Detention Center. Bail has been set at $20,000 for all but Smith, whose bond is set at $21,500.
