Infant assault ends in arrest

A Grayson man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a two-month old infant.


Shannon Wagoner, 32, of Grayson, was arrested on Wednesday after an investigation by Kentucky State Police.


According to a KSP press release, a two-month old infant was taken to King's Daughters Medical Center on Jan. 5 for treatment of a head injury.


Due to the nature of the injury, the infant was transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital for treatment and authorities were contacted.


Detective Jeff Kelley responded and began an investigation into the cause of the injury. During the course of the investigation it was determined Shannon Wagoner, the infant’s father, had struck the infant in the head causing the injury.


Wagoner was charged with first degree assualt- domestic violence, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.


The assualt reportedly occurred at a residence in Carter County, but Wagoner was taken into custody in Boyd County.


At the time of his arrest, Wagoner had illegal items in his possession and was charged cordingly.
