Tobacco Phase I Cost Share applications available August 29

The Carter County Agricultural Advancement Council, Tobacco Phase I Cost-share Program Applications will be ready on August 29, 2007 at the Extension Office. Appointments are available on Wednesdays starting with August 29th, in the extension office if Applicants want to work with a Council member filling out the application.
Sign-up period is August 29th through September 26, 2007. All applications must be turned in no later than September 26, 2007. Again this year Applicants are ranked on scoring criteria, NOT first come, first serve. The scoring criteria are designed to give the tobacco dependent farmer priority.
Applications received no later than September 26th will be processed by October 24, 2007. Letters will be sent to all applicants stating the status of their applications, no later than November 2, 2007.
Model Cost Share Programs available include:
Agricultural Diversification
Hay, Straw & Commodity Storage
Forage Improvement
Genetic Improvement
Goat & Sheep Diversification
Beef Cattle Handling Facilities
Livestock Fencing (Boundary fence)
The Agricultural Diversification Program includes the following program areas:
• Commercial vegetable, mushroom and herb production
• Commercial fruit and sweet sorghum production
• Production of commercial ornamental horticultural products
• Greenhouse construction or conversion for horticultural enterprises
• Small animal production (bees, rabbits)
• Poultry Production (pastured and other fowl)
• Commercial aquaculture production
• Equine production
• Direct-to-consumer livestock production
• Agri-tourism
• Certified/Commercial Kitchen Construction or Renovation
• Sod production
The Hay, Straw & Commodity Storage includes sheds for hay and straw storage, feed and grain bins.
Forage Improvement programs include:
• Lime and Fertilizer only
• Seed, including lime and fertilizer
• Corn for grazing (less than 10 acres)
• Wheat and Rye for grazing
• Lime and soil amendments, including foliar feed
• Filter fabric pads for heavy use areas
• Fence and water for rotational grazing systems
• Subsurface drainage
• Custom seeding and seeding equipment rental
Note:
Due to seeding cutoff date, Applications for Forage Improvement will be taken for Lime & Fertilizer for fall improvement.
Applications for seeding will be for Spring 2008 forage improvement.
The Genetic Improvement Program includes cost share on Bull purchase, semen purchase, including estrus synchronization, the AI procedure, and Accredited Ai school and bull leases.
The Goat & Sheep Diversification Program includes cost share on:
• Handling Facilities and Equipment, and barn conversion for Goat/Sheep
• Buck/Ram and/or semen purchase for the improvement of the goat herd/sheep flock
• Buck/Ram Lease for the improvement of the herd
• Breeding female purchase for the establishment of goat herd/sheep flock
• Dairy Facilities for goats
• Wool Processing & value-added production
The Beef Cattle Handling Facilities Program include cost share on:
• Handling facilities and equipment for beef cattle
• Secure lot or pen for mature beef bulls
• Pens for weaning calves
• Handling facilities and equipment for dairy cattle
• Temporary or permanent shade
The Livestock Fencing Program provides cost share on posts, fences and supplies to build or repair boundary fences.
Again, these programs are NOT first come, first serve, as in the past.
