FSA emergency loans available
May 28, 2008 —
Farmers in 46 counties are eligible for Federal disaster assistance, including low interest emergency (EM) loans from USDA’s Far, Service Agency (FSA) provided eligibility requirements are met.
On May 19, President Bush declared 13 Kentucky Counties as disaster areas due to damages and losses caused by severe storms, tornadoes, flooding, mudslides, and landslides that occurred from April 3-4. Those counties are: Anderson, Crittenden, Fleming, Fulton, Hancock, Hopkins, Lewis, Livingston, McLean, Nicholas, Ohio, Spencer, and Woodford.
As a result of the declaration, 33 additional counties were named as contiguous counties where eligible family farmers may qualify for FSA EM loan assistance pursuant to Section 321(a) of the Consolidation Farm and Rural Development Act. Those counties are: Bath, Bourbon, Breckinridge, Bullitt, Butler, Caldwell, Carter, Christian, Daviess, Fayette, Franklin, Grayson, Greenup, Harrison, Henderson, Hickman, Jefferson, Jessamine, Lyon, Marshall, Mason, McCracken, Mercer, Montgomery, Muhlenberg, Nelson, Robertson, Rowan, Scott, Shelby, Union, Washington, and Webster.
EM loan applications for physical and production losses will be received through January 20, 2009, and applications pending on that date may be processed and completed.
Farmers interested in applying for assistance should contact their local FSA county office.
